Course Description

This four day hands-on course is a comprehensive overview of all the factors that effect the successful delivery of media on all platforms whether delivering to TV, Web (download or streaming), DVD, E-Commerce i.e VOD (Video On Demand), Interactive TV, Podcasting e.t.c

It takes the student through the primary workflows and includes the preliminary planning considerations needed for the different and varying technologies i.e how the choice of the capture/shooting format directly effects the quality and ease of delivery of the finished product.

Also covered: Maintaining the quality throughout the workflow, basics of editing picture and sound and how this affects the quality of the various delivery platforms, adding titles, graphics and how these will look on the various platforms and their realistic limitations, Colour correcting for the various platforms so your content looks the same across all delivery methods. Legalizing the picture & sound before delivery, understanding the difference between compression and wrappers. Which compression CoDec is suitable for which use, understanding the technology behind and the basics of creating a DVD and Bluray DVD and detailed examples of outputting to Web, You Tube, Apple TV, Flash, QuickTime, Windows Media, Flash, Mobile Phones e.t.c.

Topics also include basic knowledge of TV, DVD and Multimedia formats, Interlacing versus Progressive scan on both TV and Computers. How the image differs between a TV and Computer based format. Adjusting and customising preferences and settings, creating the best quality picture and Audio and understanding the limitations of each delivery format.

Software used: Apple’s popular industry standard and in-expensive Final Cut Studio and Adobe’s production software.

    Compression Basics Getting the best picture and sound quality when compressing. The starting point is the key!

    Codec Basics Basic’s of how CoDec’s (MPEG, MP3, JPEG e.t.c) and Wrappers (Players) (QuickTime, WMV, RealPlayer) work.

    Lesson 5

    How Compression works. How the settings effect quality Vs Size of file.

    Lesson 6

    Importing Importing your footage from various tape based or solid state formats both uncompressed and compressed. Understanding the limits of both.

    Lesson 7

    Editing Pictures and Sound Basics of editing picture & Sound, Rough edit followed by trimming, 3 point editing.
